The reason for the ArizonaFisherman is nothing more than to get fishing information directly into the hands of the people who care about it quickly and without too much “fluff”. You want to know where to go, how to get there, what to use, and what kind of fishing to expect. Fisherman are secretive, reclusive types of people. We like to be alone on the river (I cringe if I run into another person in one of my favorite places). We think that Side-By-Side “Combat fishing” is for the uniformed, the once-a-year fisherman. Many people look at fishing as an opportunity to toss out some pink play dough into a lake and then just sit there, coors light in one hand, pole stuffed between two rocks to keep it in place. The thought of waking up at 4am and hiking a four hour trail to fish for a couple hours is insanity to the normal person.
I’m not a great fisherman by any means. I don’t get to go fishing as often as I like and when I do go I want to make it count. Just like everyone else, there are times when I sit at the local lake with the millions of other Americans, trying desperately not to cross lines or God forbid hook their swimming Labrador. That’s not what it’s about for me, and hopefully if you’re reading this article your looking for more than just the normal spots everyone goes to. If you don’t mind getting up early, bumping down 4-wheel drive only roads and hiking for a few hours to toss your line in the water than you’ve found the right place. I don’t plan on writing about every spot in Arizona, just the ones I feel are worth covering. Let’s leave the fishing report at Canyon Lake to Arizona Fish and Game. I’m going to cover roads less traveled.
Side Note:
Even though I hate to do it, part of me wants to tell people about the great places I’ve been. The remote locations we all have that we don’t want anyone to know about. The places you go where you can fish for hours without so much as a sound (except for the occasional bear). I’d be happy if this site filled a nitch (hopefully a small one). The last thing I want is to start filling up campgrounds and fighting for a spot on the river. While it’s impossible to find places in nature untouched by humans, I hope to bring you to the ones that are still the most perfect, the most pristine. I’m here to prove that Arizona is much more than just desert. The fishing here can be amazing if you know where to go.
